If you want to buy the right laptop for you and invest in something suitable for the next 3-4 years. You can learn how to choose the right laptop with the necessary features.
There are many brands available in the market. But not all brands are perfect and not all brands offer what they have to offer.
Here are some features you can choose from:
- Storage device
Devices with less than 4 GB of RAM today are unlikely to be able to cope with even basic tasks. The DDR3 standard is already considered obsolete, and the most widespread is DDR4. With the same amount of memory, the latter works more efficiently and stably, which is why it has gained a significant share of the laptop market.
In the middle segment, you can count on 6 or 8 GB of RAM; this will give you more options in terms of multitasking, smooth animation and app launch speed. And the gaming model gets 32 GB or more. Despite the difficulties of upgrading a laptop, it’s the RAM that can be easily replaced if you want, so you can add a stick of RAM after you buy the device.
Today, two types of storage are relevant: HDD and SSD. The first is characterized by a somewhat comfortable, but impressive capacity (most models 1 TB), and the second offers less space (typically 256-512 GB), but provides higher data transfer speeds and greater reliability. An SSD has no moving parts, which means it’s hard to damage. Of course, there are also large SSDs with a capacity of 1 to 4 TB and more, but they also cost more.
Sometimes there are models where both drives are featured, in which case the software can be stored on the SSD for faster loading and the content arrays can be stored on the HDD.
Without a doubt, IPS matrices are of better quality than TFT ones. They offer more realistic color reproduction, wider viewing angles, and ample contrast. TFT screens display poorly in direct sunlight and also darken the image if viewed not directly, but at an angle. OLED and AMOLED matrices are distinguished by bright colors and high definition, but such a bright image can cause discomfort out of habit. And yes, those screens are more expensive.
In terms of resolution, Full HD (1920×1080) will produce a more detailed and sharper image than HD, which is why it has become a priority for screens up to 17 inches. Although, of course, this is not the maximum value. But the question is, do you need a huge resolution on a relatively small monitor if, say, you don’t even plan to display it on a 4K TV?
Battery capacity is secondary: power consumption is actually considered an important factor in providing impressive range. Integrated video and a simple processor will last much longer than a discrete card with a powerful chip. In addition, it must be understood that the operating time declared by the manufacturer is for certain ideal conditions. In fact, everything will depend on how you use the device, how many heavy applications you run and what brightness you set on the monitor. So even if you were promised a battery life of more than 13 hours, you should not count on that time.
The fast charging technology is useful if you travel or travel frequently in the city. They will reduce the time to replenish energy reserves and bring the device back to life faster after active use.
All these features differ from one laptop to another. It is your own choice to choose the one that suits your needs.
