A dirty stain on a couch looks absolutely disgusting. But over time, the couch upholstery gets dirty with food spills, coffee or tea stains, pet hairs and our dirty hands. If the couch is too old you may consider getting a new one. But what if the couch is new and someone just spilled soda on it?
Well, in that situation you should call a professional upholstery cleaning service right away. Anyways, if you do not want to pay for a professional service, we have come up with some techniques to clean your couch. Although for tough stains these techniques might not work.
• Vacuum Cleaning The Couch- Vacuum the couch to remove all dust, dirt, hair, and food particles that accumulate in the corners. Use a hand vacuum cleaner to do the job. Do not forget to clean the cushions.
• Clean The Fabric- You can use homemade cleaners to clean couch stains and make them spotless. To clean the fabric you must determine the fabric type first. For that find the tag on the couch and loom for the codes on the labels.
The labels usually have cleaning instructions written on them. WS means you can use a mild detergent with a steam vacuum and X means you cannot use water on it.
• Remove The Stains– For fabric, upholstery use a mixture of ¼ cup vinegar and ¾ cup warm water with dish soap. Put it in a spray bottle for using it conveniently. Spray on the stain and gently rub it with a soft cloth. Dampen a clean cloth to wipe the soap out of the surface. The stain should also fade out with it.
For leather upholstery mix olive oil and vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the dirty patch on the couch and wipe it down with a clean cloth.
For synthetic upholstery mix ¼ cup vinegar, and ¾ cup warm water with dishwasher liquid soap. Spray the liquid on the patch and scrub the area until the stain is gone.
• Use A Lint Roller- If your sofa or couch is made up of fabric that attracts too many dust particles, small hair, etc. then you must buy a lint roller. You will get lint rollers that you can use exclusively on sofa fabrics. You just have to roll it over the upholstery to get a clean, bubbling-free couch.
