The series follows a similar formula to many Isekai anime. It centers around Subaru Natsuki, a teenage hermit who is unexpectedly and inexplicably transported to an alternate fantasy world (via Anime News Organization). However, this average Isekai starting is undermined when Subaru discovers that he was also spontaneously granted a special ability. This power, “Return by Death,” allows Subaru to get back to a past, randomly resolved moment upon death, similar to how designated spots capability in a computer game. Utilizing this ability, the overall average Subaru is able to beat struggle through redundancy and planning.
